Hotel Papandayan Bandung was established in 1982 and it was officially opened in 1990. The name Papandayan was taken from the street name where the hotel is located, although now the street name has changed to Jalan Gatot Subroto. Hotel Papandayan Bandung was a four star hotel featured 235 rooms, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, meeting rooms, laundry, and tennis court.
In 1992, the property was renovated with additional Grand Ballroom which is the largest ballroom in Bandung at the time. It was inaugurated by the Governor of West Java, Bapak Nuriana.
Hotel Papandayan Bandung was managed locally by Media Hospitality in 1996 and after 13 years of operation, the management decided to develop and did a total renovation to the establishment. In 2009, the hotel was shut down and was officially re-opened on 30th April 2011 and was inaugurated by The Vice President of Indonesia Bapak Yusuf Kalla. The name of the hotel was changed to The Papandayan and it is classified as five-star hotel.
